Are Diet Foods Increasing Your Risk of Diabetes?

Soda and Sugar

It may be common knowledge that sodas contribute to a drastic increase in sugar consumption and increases your probability of developing type 2 diabetes but did you know that research has shown that consuming foods labeled as Diet can be equally as bad?

New Research:

  1. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study indicated drinking one 12oz can of diet soda a week increases the likelihood of developing diabetes by 33%.(Chaney DC, 2017)
  2. Another study published in Diabetes Care indicated that consuming one diet soda a day increases the probability of developing diabetes by 67%.(Nettleton, 2009)
  3. Aspartame alone has been linked to weight gain, increased appetite and obesity.(Malkan, 2019)
  4. Artificial sweeteners in all “Diet” foods disrupts the balance of the bacteria in the gut and causes harm.(Shell, 2015)

If you already have diabetes and want to cut the sugar out “Diet” is Not the answer.  “Diet” is code word for a chemically altered sugar replacement that is ultimately unhealthy.  For example: NutraSweet, Dextrose(corn sugar), Sucrolose, Splenda, Equal, Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K) just to name a few.

Look for healthy alternative sweeteners like Pure Stevia, Pure Monk Fruit (Luo Han extract) and occasionally sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol.

At Living Health Integrative Medicine we have supplements to support blood sugar control in a healthy way.
