Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustments

There are many benefits to regular chiropractic adjustments at Living Health Integrative Medicine. The most obvious ones are, with no surprise, related to reducing pain. Neck pain and low back pain are the most common physical or pain related symptoms we see in our office, and for good reason; chiropractic can help tremendously in relieving these common pains. Lets also talk about some of the more unknown benefits of regular chiropractic adjustments.

First, lets explain the adjustment. Patients on every visit will have their spinal alignment check by a Doctor of Chiropractic. Before the first adjustment almost all patients will have spinal x-rays taken to truly know the alignment of each patient’s spine. It is our philosophy, that if you’re going to adjust and treat a spine, you better know what it looks like first. Based on those initial x-rays and the doctor’s palpation findings on that day, every patient’s adjustment will be individualized for their spinal misalignment.

When the spine is misaligned it will adversely affect the spinal nerves that exit between each of the vertebrae in the spine. It is this irritation to the spinal nerves that creates most of the pain and symptoms patients experience when their spine is out of alignment. The adjustment is designed to gently and accurately realign those vertebrae, which the doctor has found to be “out of place”. The adjustment will literally put the vertebrae back into the correct position; ensuring the joints are aligned properly, increasing pain free movement, but most importantly it will help relieve the irritation to the spinal nerves. In our office we use many different techniques to adjust the spine. Every patient is different and not every technique works best for every patient. By being highly trained in multiple ways to adjust the spine, our team can find the best treatment for you.

Now, we already discussed a little about the most common conditions people see chiropractors for, neck pain, low back pain, etc. Other conditions that chiropractic adjustments help relieve include headaches, sciatica, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, knee pain, and shoulder pain. All adjustments are not spinal; almost any joint in the body can be adjusted to ensure it is moving properly.

The more unknown benefits of the adjustment are those that are not immediately seen or felt. These include the benefits to the entire body and the function of the different organs and systems. The nerves exiting the spine supply more than just joints and bones and cause pain. They also supply all the organs internally; these include the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, stomach, intestines, etc. If there is a misalignment in the spine, irritating a nerve that supplies any of these organs, that organ will not be able to function properly either. Regular chiropractic adjustments help ensure that our digestive system is working properly. It can help lower blood pressure and decrease inflammation. Probably one of the biggest benefits regular chiropractic adjustments help with is boosting the body’s immune system. If your battling a cold, allergies, sore throat, or a cough getting adjusted will significantly help reduce the time it will take for your body to fight off the disease. Flu season is right around the corner, we have seen in our office our patient’s that are getting regular adjustments get the flu at a significantly lower rate than the regular community.

In closing, it’s well known that chiropractic care can help relieve common conditions like neck pain and low back pain. If your suffering from these don’t continue to live with it, make an appointment to have your spinal alignment checked. Also, if your noticing your body is not quite functioning the way it should, or your feel like your constantly getting sick, or you just want to stay healthy overall; you should also have your spinal alignment evaluated. The longer the spine stays out of alignment the more progressive the irritation to the spinal nerves can become.
